Egael Tishman, a 24-year-old Israeli, and his wife Shif Fanken, 27, collided while zip-lining through the treetops in Roatan, Honduras, with Fanken becoming stuck halfway down and her husband smashing into her.
Following their wedding on Saturday, the newlyweds had boarded the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Allure of the Seas in the US before arriving in Roatán five days later.
According to The Washington Post, the couple survived the initial crash, and were treated by emergency services. The husband said he was having trouble breathing in the ambulance and was administered oxygen.
“The young man complained that he could not breathe,” said Wilmer Guerrero, commander of the Roatan Fire Department. “He was evaluated in the ambulance and was given oxygen.”
Tishman however succumbed to his injuries, however his cause of death has not been reported.
Fanken was transported via air to a hospital in the United States and is believed to be in a stable condition.
An investigation has been launched into how the accident occurred.
