A six-year-old girl was allegedly arrested at school because she ‘kicked somebody’.
According to reports, Kaia Rolle was charged and taken to a juvenile detention centre in handcuffs, where she gave fingerprints and had a mugshot taken.
The girl’s grandmother, Meralyn Kirkland, was in disbelief when she heard what Kaia had been through.
She told officers that her granddaughter was dealing with a disorder called sleep apnoea – a condition where the walls of your throat come together while you sleep, blocking off your airway.
Ms Kirkland explained to the police that Kaia ‘has a medical condition that we are working on getting resolved.’

But she says that the officer dismissed the child’s condition, saying, ‘Well I have sleep apnoea and I don’t behave like that.’
The grandmother was shocked that Kaia had to endure the ordeal, saying, ‘They told us we had to wait a few minutes because Kaia was being fingerprints, and when she said “fingerprinted” it hit me like a tonne of bricks.’
She added, ‘No six-year-old child should be able to tell somebody that they had handcuffs on them and they were riding in the back of a police car and taken to a juvenile centre to be fingerprinted (and to have a) mug shot (taken)’.
Kaia’s now been returned home but the status of her charges are unknown.
