A Queensland animal shelter centre received a beautiful note from firefighters, who had worked through the night to make sure the animals were safe.
Last Thursday (5 December), staff at the Animal Welfare League QLD (AWLQ) in Beenleigh, had to evacuate when a fire broke out – leaving behind 20 dogs, a cow, goat and chickens.
Yahoo News spoke to the home’s manager, Melinda Phipps, who described how fire crew went ‘above and behind’ by keeping in touch with staff to ensure them the animals were safe.
She said, ‘The animals could have become stressed with the smoke and noise so it was nice to know that the firefighters were there calming them down.’
Staff returned Friday morning and found a note from the Birnam Rural Fire Brigade.
It read, ‘We brought in your blankets so they didn’t get ash on them. We also told all the dogs that we were here to keep them safe.’
AWLQ took to Facebook to share the note, writing, ‘Thank you to the wonderful crew from the Birnam Rural Fire Brigade who kindly stayed at AWLQ’s Beenleigh Animal Rehoming Centre until 1am this morning to ensure our animals were safe.
‘To all the incredible emergency services, thank you for everything you do to keep people and their furry companions safe.’
The firefighting team wrote on their own Facebook page, ‘It was such a pleasure making sure the dogs and a cow were safe.’
AWLQ are also working on a campaign called ‘Get them home for Christmas,’ which aims to have empty shelters before Christmas.
