Family farewells Brisbane twins who died after tragic accident

So tragic - by Riah Matthews

Family farewells Brisbane twins who died after tragic accident

Brisbane twins Violet and Indiana have been farewelled in an emotional funeral funded by generous strangers.

The six-week-old twins died in what is thought to be a tragic co-sleeping accident on November 27. One of the twins died in her mum's bed while another was revived at the scene but later passed away in hospital.

They were farewelled on Monday at a funeral at a private funeral home in Holland Park, in Brisbane’s south. Around 50 family members and friends paid tribute to the girls who were described a 'two small sparrows' who were 'so loved by their mother, father, sister, brother and grandparents.'

On the cover of the funeral book was written,' There is no footprint so small that it does not leave an imprint on this world.'

The service was made possible by kind-hearted strangers who donated over $25,000 on a Go Fund Me page dedicated to paying for the babies' funeral.

Set up by Kieran Garratt, the page explained that the girls had tragically passed away at just six weeks old.

'Violet and Indiana were tragically lost this week in Brisbane. They leave behind a big sister, big brother and two heartbroken parents, Joel and Diane.

'These angels graced us for only six beautiful weeks but have created such a hole since their passing. It is hard to see where the next smile will come from for their beloved parents. Please help us in the costs for the funeral services for Violet and Indiana.'

After the target of $20,000 was surpassed, Kieran took to the page again to thank everyone for their kindness, saying: 'The family are overcome with shock at the kindness of everyone.'

The twins' parents have also been overwhelmed by the kindness of people in their community who've rallied during this tragic time.

Joel, who's a scientist, is currently unemployed after his contact ended at the University of Queensland and their two-year-old son has autism and attends a special school. Their son’s school, the AEIOU Foundation for Children with Autism in Logan, waived his school fees for six months and gave the family six months worth of free fuel, reports the Courier Mail.

A neighbour also pressed $700 cash into the palms of the family when they saw them on the street.
