Eighteenth severed foot washes up on beach

Eighteenth severed foot washes up on beach

Disembodied feet in sneakers have been mysteriously washing up along the coast of the Salish Sea between Canada and the US for over a decade, and countless theories have developed as to why.

The 18th severed foot to have washed up on the beach on December 6 has reignited the dozens of theories.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police have told the latest find was made by a man walking his dog along the beach. The man called authorities and the area was sealed off, with an extensive search being conducted for the rest of the body. Sadly, nothing was found.

British Columbia Coroners Services spokesman Andy Watson said a preliminary analysis indicated the remains were human.

According to law enforcement, there have been several cases where 'fake' shoes have been left with animal remains stuffed into sneakers.

The first severed foot was found on August 20, 2007. It was a right foot, size 12, encased in a shoe made in India. Authorities were able to link the foot to a male who suffered from depression, concluding he most likely committed suicide in or near water.

Of all 18 feet found, only two have matched up.

According to reports, the Coroners Service has been able to identify eight feet that have washed up on the shore, linking them to six people. Authorities do not believe any of the cases involve foul play.

However, that hasn't stopped people from concocting wild stories and theories surrounding the bizarre events.

BC Coroner Barbara McLintock told Buzzfeed Canada, 'A lot of this is simply the quelling of the public imagination, to say ‘No, this is unfortunate and they’re all very sad cases.''
