The 76-year-old who is currently at the Vatican and it is not sure whether he will return home to face the charges.
Victoria Police are expected to release the charges within hours.
While the case is a serious one, it's not yet known whether Australian authorities will seek an extradition request to have him return to Australia.
The Newspaper also reports that Victoria Police will not comment on reports thus far.
