Teen murder mum confesses: I threw baby out window
A 16-year-old girl has admitted to killing her “secret” newborn baby by throwing her out of a second-floor window.
Antonia Lopez gave birth in her bedroom in on Sept. 30 last year, before disposing of the infant in a “panic” and soliciting help to get rid of the body via her Facebook page.
Her baby girl, who was two months premature, measured 14 inches long and weighed just two pounds. According to an autopsy report, she suffered significant bleeding near the skull, brain, spine and abdomen before she was pronounced dead.
Text messages sent by Lopez to her boyfriend at the time of the incident reveal that she had kept her pregnancy hidden for months, despite initially claiming she didn’t realise she was expecting until she went into labour.
In one message read in court, Lopez wrote: “Babe I’m having contractions in my lower abs every couple of seconds. It hurts so much.”
“I am in so much pain,” she penned in another. “I want it to stop.”
The final text message read: “It was a girl by the way.”
Lopez’s mother reportedly called the police after finding the baby outside on the grass.
Speaking to the World Herald, Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine has explained the teen’s reaction was not premeditated and described it as “a horrible case.”
“It wasn’t a planned-out, thought-out process. It was more of a panicked reaction,” he said.
“She obviously has some issues that need to be dealt with.”
Due to her mental state and lack of criminal history, Lopez’s case has been moved down to the juvenile court.
According to KMTV, the Nebraskan teenager has entered a plea of admission and is currently undergoing medical and psychiatric care while she remains in foster care.
A judge will decide Lopez’s fate in a hearing on March 24.
