One of the men who raped and brutally murdered Anita Cobby has died in jail.
Michael Murphy, 66, was convicted alongside four other men for the 1986 slaying of the young beauty queen and nurse.
Corrective services have confirmed Murphy died of cancer in Sydney's Long Bay prison, news.com.au reports.
He had been suffering from liver cancer.
Ms Cobby's widower John was reportedly delighted with the news of Muprhy's death.
'I hope it was painful for him,' he told The Daily Telegraph. 'One down, four to go.'
Murphy was the eldest of five men who abducted, raped and killed the 26-year-old as she was walking from Blacktown station in February of 1986.
A farmer then found Ms Cobby's body two days later.
The four other killers, Gary Murphy, Les Murphy, John Travers and Michael Murdoch, remain behind bars.
