According to police, the trio told Betty they were police officers before ransacking her house.
The took off with all of the woman jewellery which included the gold necklace around her neck and a watch which had belonged to her late husband.
Following the heist, Betty was left with post traumatic stress disorder which led to her Takotsubo Syndrome - also known as Broken Heart Syndrome.
Takotsubo Syndrome is a condition where the heart muscles suddenly become weakened and often occurs following severe physical or emotional stress.
Sadly Betty passed away on Wednesday this week.
Speaking out about her death, her family described the woman as happy and independent, adding that she had lived in her home for 56 years before she passed.
'The violent actions of these callous individuals robbed her not only of her precious possessions but her sense of security and peace and the will to go on,' they said.
Police have described the case as one of the most heartbreaking they've experienced.
