| My cat Puss'n attacks everyone and everything. Groceries have to be put away immediately, otherwise she rips them apart. It's as if she's being spiteful and I don't know what to do. Marj Wilson, 77, NSW |

Pet: Puss'n, a domestic short-haired cat The Pet Whisperer says:
Puss'n sounds like a handful! Although animals share many emotions with us, such as fear and pain, spite is not one of them. The reason behind her destructive and aggressive behaviour is more likely a result of instinct. Cats are built for hunting and although they've been domesticated, they still have that instinct. Puss'n is hunting when she rips apart the groceries and attacks people. You need to give Puss'n an outlet to express natural behaviours such as hunting and stalking. Buy some toys for her. Toys that mimic prey, such as fake mice and birds, are best. Make some time each day to have a play session with Puss'n and rotate her toys regularly to stop her getting bored. If you satisfy her desire to hunt you'll find she is less likely to attack people and your groceries! Do you own a cat who has been mean from time to time? Tell other readers what you did. |

A spray bottle is good deterrent. However it sounds like that this feline thinks that he/she is boss. So peg it down in the order, grad it by the fur of the neck(asits mother would have done, when it was a kitten)and force it to look at you and shake it a bit(not violently ofcourse)after that just drop it and walk away.No mrs niceguy.Manners have to unfortunately sometimes taught a bit harshly.

Change your cat's food, our cat was the same and once we started feeding him Evo from out pet store he changed completely... I have heard the same from other people, who use better quality food to curb bad behaviour. It seems more expensive but you give them less so it's around the same.

Wow sounds familiar i had 3 cats and one always attacking it doesnt matter what you do. I find that when the other cats living in the same household 1 will attack. I recently moved and took one cat with me and now shes very friendly. No more attacking!!! :)

My cat used to chuck hissy fits all the time. I ended up getting him one massive scratching post (his domain) and taking him to the vet and getting a hormone injection. Worked like a charm. My cat was an inside cat. We have started letting him outside and not giving him injection and he is really good now.
