Easy ways to feng shui your home

Create a happy home and attract luck with these simple steps from Emma McFayden of Living Edge.

Keep the garden and front path as attractive as possible. Creating an area with beautiful plants and garden beds will help attract opportunities in your life and positive energy into your home.

Clear out the clutter! Book a date with yourself at least twice a year to throw out unwanted or unused goods. Keeping these represents blockages in your life and holding onto the past.

Fix damaged areas of your house such as broken roof tiles or flaking paint, which can represent a decline in health.

Place pictures on the wall at the entrance or in your bedroom of the things you want, such as a happy family, a dream holiday or new home.

If you have a study or home office, place the desk so you can see across the entire room and don't have your back to the door. This gives you a sense of control and allows you to see opportunities as they come in.

Avoid mirrors in the bedroom or cover them at night. They are too active and can make it hard to fall asleep or stay asleep at night.

Make sure the head of your bed is against a solid wall to bring support and stability in all areas of your life. Try not to place the bed below a window as the strong energy outside can deplete the body's energy.

bedroom

Use colours and decor carefully in a bedroom. Pastel colours and simple prints create a relaxing environment, whereas bold colours such as pinks or reds can be energising.

Hold a space clearing at least once a year. You can do this yourself or use a feng shui practitioner. It helps to remove stagnant energy and negative emotions that can build up in your home. Start by cleaning the area and then add place four elements within the space you wish to clear. Water (just a bowl or try a water feature), candles for fire, some house plants or crystals for earth. The final element is air - try burning incense or playing music.
