Make a picnic tote bag

Send to a friend Print
Turn groovy tea towels into a unique picnic tote bag. It's the perfect gift for this time of the year.

You will need:

  • Some patterned tea towels
  • A sewing machine

How to make:

1. Select two tea towels in contrasting colours. Lay them flat and trim a band about 30mm wide from each side of the tea towels. Press the bands and pin right sides together, stitch and turn in to make the handles.

2. Cut the remaining pieces of each tea towel into two rectangles. Lay the matching pieces right sides together and stitch the sides in place. Then layer them to make the lining and the outside of the bag.

3. Position the handles on the top edge between the layers and stitch around the top. Stitch across the base of the bag. Turn in and press, then stitch along the base of the lining, pushing the lining into the bag.
