THE MONTH BEFORE
Tell your friends what you're planning and see if any of them want to quit with you. Chances are, at least one of them will. Having someone there to support you isa great help - especially when they know what you're going through. You'll be able to give each other advice and understanding, which is invaluable!

THE WEEK BEFORE
When you hand over cash for a packet of cigarettes, think about the things youcan treat yourself to with the money you'll save when you quit. I was tired of cigarettes staining my teeth so when I stopped smoking, I saved up the money I would have spent and used it to have my teeth whitened.

QUIT DAY!
Be realistic. Giving up smoking is tough. I'm afraid to say you won't feel fabulous immediately, but if you persevere, the results will come in time.

WEEK ONE
To boost your chances of success you need to change your thinking - cigarettes don't actually make you feel better! When you're stressed and reach for a cigarette, ask yourself 'Will this solve anything?' The answer is always no!
Jenna Brown, 26, Erskineville, NSW
WEEK TWO
Skip social drinks in the first two weeks of quitting. It's far more difficult to fight temptation when you've had a couple of glasses of wine, especially if some of your friends are still smoking. Go to the movies, meet up for coffee or catch up while going for a walk. That way you're less likely to be tempted to light up!
