You will need:
- some large candles
- small saucepan
- teacups (check your local charity shops, we got ours at Vinnies for just $1 each)
- sticky tape wooden skewers
Instructions: - Pull the wicks out from the base of each candle. Chop up the candles to fit in the saucepan, and place over the lowest heat on the stovetop. Melt the wax gently, swirling the pan often, being careful not to boil.
- In the meantime, measure the wicks by holding them in the teacups and cutting to the right length. They should just touch the base at the bottom and be the height of the rim at the top. Using the sticky tape, attach each wick loosely to a wooden skewer at a right angle, making a 'T' shape - the skewer will rest on the rim of the cup, holding the wick upright while the wax dries around it.
- Arrange cups on a baking tray lined with baking paper (to catch any spills of melted wax) and have the skewers/wicks handy. When the wax is melted, carefully pour into each teacup, filling three-quarters full. Lower the wicks into each cup, resting the skewer on the rim. Don't worry about spills or drips, they can be scraped off when the wax is dry.
- Put the tray in a cool spot overnight to let the wax dry, then gently pull away the sticky tape and skewers.
TIP: Pick up an old saucepan at the charity shop when you get your teacups, or look for an inexpensive one at a discount store. |
