These lady beetle biscuits make the perfect present for family and friends.


Time 45 min




  • 200g dark chocolate, broken into pieces
  • 2 x 200g packets gingerbread cookies (we used Pfeffernusse)
  • coloured cachous, to decorate
  • 1 1/4 cups icing sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • red food colouring


  1. Line two trays with baking paper. Melt chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of simmering water.
  2. Dip cookies into chocolate to make beetle’s head. Add cachous for eyes, place on tray to set. Spoon remaining chocolate into piping bag or snap-lock bag.
  3. Place icing sugar, lemon juice and 1-2 tablespoons water in bowl, mix until smooth. Add a few drops of red food colouring to get desired colour.
  4. Using a palette knife, spread on cookies to form wing shapes. Decorate with more cachous, complete by outlining with piped chocolate.
  5. Allow to set before packaging in boxes of 6.
